The Crystals Museum 45's
The Crystals PHILLES 122 "All Grown Up" RED VINYL This record and the other colored 45's are all part of a group of colored vinyl 45's that were pressed at the Savoy pressing plant in Newark, New Jersey. They were originally pressed by an employee at the plant who liked to make colored records for his own amusement and even apparently traded a few with pals at other plants who would make colored records for him of releases they were contracted to press. Savoy pressed records for many labels under specific contracts. Obviously, Philles and the other labels represented here did not authorize these records to be pressed in colored vinyl; but they certainly didn't care if a few were made for the amusement of the pressing plant employees. It is unclear exactly how many of each of these were made but I will let you know how many I know to have survived as we go along. This one is apparently the only surviving copy!
